Shanvally Cemetery

Shanvally

Galway

Ireland

There has been a graveyard here since at least 1817, as shown on the Larkin map of that year, though the surviving gravestones would be of a more recent date. Since the population was overwhelmingly Catholic there were no death records from the parish at the time; consequently it is difficult to date how long before 1817 it was first used as a burial ground. The cemetery is in use to this day and the grounds have been extended in recent years.
